Active Release Therapy

This therapy involves aggressive manual techniques to attempt to address adhesions and pressure accumulation within certain structures in the body that can cause or contribute to a wide array of disorders and pain.  These adhesions can be between muscles, soft tissue structures such as fascia or ligaments, blood vessels, nerves, or bone.  Pressure accumulation can also occur within the muscle itself such as the wrist extensors of a professional violinist.  Research has shown that intramuscular pressure can be as high as ten times that of a normal individual.  A combination of movement and therapist technique can effectively address these issues as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with a detailed physiotherapy program.  This type of treatment can be very effective in enhancing performance in sports and accelerating recovery from training and competition.
