Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a technique that involves insertion and manipulation of needles at specific points on the body. It is thought to restore health and well being and particularly good at treating pain. Acupuncture is thought to have originated in China sometime between 202 BC to 220 AD and is based on a paradigm different than scientific biomedicine.
This type of treatment addresses the human body as a whole and disease is conceived as a loss of homeostasis among the systems of function within. Acupuncturists attempt to modify the energy within these systems by utilizing one or some of the over one thousand known points on the body. Chinese medical theory holds that acupuncture works by normalizing the free flow of qi (vital energy) throughout the body. Pain or illnesses are addressed by attempting to normalize local or systemic accumulations or deficiencies of qi.
At Activaid, we utilize a holistic approach to healing the body and eliminating pain occasionally with acupuncture alone but most often dynamically in conjunction with a physiotherapy program clinically or in-home.
